1. What is ADS-B

ADS-B is the main monitoring technology in the future determined by ICAO.

ADS-B technology combines advanced technologies such as satellite navigation, communication technology, airborne equipment and ground equipment to provide safer and more efficient means of air traffic monitoring. It can effectively improve the operational situation awareness of controllers and pilots, expand the monitoring coverage and improve the air traffic safety level, airspace capacity and operational efficiency.

ADS-B airborne equipment encodes flight number, coordinate, altitude, speed and other information, generates ADS-B message, and broadcasts it through 1090ES data link. After receiving the signal, the ground station and the aircraft in the surrounding airspace decode it to get all kinds of relevant information of the aircraft. Therefore, as long as the ground station can decode correctly within the operating range, the positioning accuracy of the aircraft is only related to the accuracy of the target aircraft's own coordinate sensor and altitude sensor, but not to the target range, echo and other factors that affect the secondary radar angle measurement and ranging. ADS-B has higher precision and real-time performance than traditional radar monitoring mode, and can be used as a reference standard.

ADS-B ground station works with ground omni-directional antenna to receive ADS-B messages in DF17 format broadcast by aircraft and surface vehicles. After processing, the accurate position, altitude, heading, speed, aircraft type, identification code, flight number and other information of the target are obtained, and all the information is updated in real time every second. Based on this, controllers can obtain real-time air traffic conditions.

2. What is ADSBRADAR

ADSBRADAR is a professional receiver specially designed for receiving ADS-B signal, which can receive the ADS-B signal

1090MHz ADS-B signal is decoded into information that can be recognized by monitoring software. It can be used for air traffic control surveillance command, surface activity target surveillance, etc. Because the data accuracy of ADS-B is higher than that of radar, ADS-B data can be used to calibrate radar and replace secondary radar.

ADSBRADAR can parse all DF format and A / C mode code, basic version ADSBRADAR can only parse ADS-B information of DF17 and DF18. For customized information, please contact us.

3. How to use ADSBRADAR

3.1 hardware installation

To make ADSBRADAR work normally, two kinds of provided accessories are needed: one is MINIUSB data cable, the second is the 1090MHz receiving antenn. Before installing the equipment, the above two kinds of accessories should be prepared.

Installation process

A: Check the ADSBRADAR host for good appearance and damage.

B: Prepare a computer with normal operating system and USB 2.0 port.

C: Plug the small end of the MINIUSB cable into the MINIUSB port on the front panel of ADSBRADAR, and the large end into the USB port of the computer.

D: If everything is normal, the PWR indicator on the front panel of ADSBRADAR will emit white light, and the computer will prompt to find a new device.

E: (this step can be carried out after all software and hardware are installed) install the receiving antenna. Connect the receiving antenna connector of SMA male to the SMA socket of RF mark on ADSBRADAR rear panel for standby.

After the above steps are completed, the hardware installation is over, and the following is the software installation.

3.2 installationUSB drive

ADSBRADAR can be correctly recognized by the computer, and the corresponding USB driver needs to be installed, which is provided when the user purchases ADSBRADAR. Generally provide rar format compressed file.

The driver installation process is as follows

A: Decompress the compressed driver file and store it in a location that is easy to remember (e.g. D: ADSBRADAR).

B: After step d in 3.1, check "include this location in the search" according to the computer prompt, and click browse, select the path to the decompression folder in step a, and click next to automatically copy the driver file.

C: After completion, the prompt will appear.

Congratulations, the USB driver of ADSBRADAR has been successfully installed.

After the above steps are completed, the green RF indicator on the front panel of ADSBRADAR will flash once every 1 ~ 3 seconds (when the antenna is not connected), indicating that the hardware is working normally.

3.3 installation of monitoring terminal software

If the ADS-B information received by ADSBRADAR is to be displayed as the status that users can view, it needs the visual monitoring software on the computer side to cooperate. Here we recommend the use of COAA's PlanePlotter software, which has a large number of users in the world and has powerful functions.

If users need to use other software, they are not guaranteed to be compatible with ADSBRADAR.

3.3.1 Confirm the port number of ADSBRADAR

4.Precautions

When using ADSBRADAR, please pay attention to the following:

4.1 physical environment

ADSBRADAR is a kind of precision equipment. It is strictly forbidden to use it in such harsh environments as super cooling, overheating, salt spray, humidity, high pressure, vibration, etc.

4.2 electromagnetic environment

ADSBRADAR receiving antenna is strictly prohibited to work in strong electromagnetic radiation environment. The receiving antenna terminal cannot input DC voltage, AC voltage or pulse voltage with peak to peak value exceeding 5V. Similarly, the power supply signal pin and USB signal pin of MINIUSB port cannot input voltage exceeding 5V.

4.3 lightning protection measures

It is strictly forbidden to use ADSBRADAR receiving antenna directly in lightning environment. Lightning protection measures shall be taken in thunderstorm season.

4.4 others

Other conditions not suitable for ADSBRADAR.

5、 Expected effect

5.1 about receiving distance

Since the transmission frequency of ADS-B signal is 1090MHz, this frequency band belongs to line of sight transmission. As the name suggests, the transmission of the signal must be carried out without occlusion. That is to say, the radio signal can not pass through the obstacles between the transmitter and the receiver by diffraction, so the erection of the antenna is very important. It is recommended to use outdoor omnidirectional antenna with high gain. Meanwhile, the antenna should be as high as possible to avoid the surrounding obstacles. As we all know, due to the influence of the curvature of the earth, when the transmitter is at an altitude of 10000 meters, the horizontal distance projection between the ground receiver and the transmitter is only about 370 km. Therefore, the higher the antenna of the ground receiver is erected, the greater the tangent distance between the ground receiver and the target,Then, the farther the receiver can receive the target (for example, the outdoor antenna erected on the top of a high-rise building can easily receive the target 400 km away).

5.2 target quantity

ADSBRADAR is designed to receive and process more than 7500 ADS-B messages per second, which is enough for the target within the receiving range of 370 km, and the actual situation will never reach this amount of information (can there be thousands of targets within the radius of less than 400 km?). For targets that cannot be received, please refer to 6.4.

6. Common problems and Solutions

6.1 .plug in USB The computer didn't respond to the cable

In this case, confirm according to the following process:

A: Check whether the MINIUSB cable is in good condition, and try again with another cable. Or use the cable to connect other devices (such as digital cameras) to confirm whether the cable is in good condition;

B: Check whether the USB port of the computer is in good condition. You can plug in other USB devices (such as USB mouse) to confirm that they are in good condition. Otherwise, change a USB port;

C: Check whether the Mini USB port of ADSBRADAR is in good condition, and visually check the integrity. Under normal conditions, the PWR indicator light on the front panel of ADSBRADAR will be white, indicating that the power supply of ADSBRADAR is normal, otherwise flyradar needs to be repaired;

D: If there is no problem in the above process, ADSBRADAR needs to be overhauled.

6.2 the computer finds new hardware, but there is a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager

If the driver of ADSBRADAR is not installed correctly, please refer to 3.2 to install USB driver.

6.3 No target received

First, ensure that the power supply, driver, antenna, etc. of ADSBRADAR are normal, and whether the parameter setting of monitoring software is normal. Then observe whether the RF indicator on the front panel flashes once every 1 ~ 3 seconds. When there is a target, the blue data indicator will flash at the same time. Otherwise, the hardware may be damaged and need to be repaired.

6.4 why are there some goalsADSBRADAR I can't find out

At present, ADS-B function is not compulsory. According to the current statistics, about 70% of the targets in the world are equipped with ADS-B function airborne equipment. The rest of the targets will be installed in China around 2016, and the United States will be around 2020, when all targets can be detected 100%.

6.5 compared with TV stick ADSBRADAR What are the advantages

ADSBRADAR is a specially designed receiver for receiving ADS-B signals, while TV bar is a general receiver, which can not be compared with ADSBRADAR in sensitivity, selectivity, real-time performance and so on. ADSBRADAR front-end uses a special filter, which can effectively suppress the impact of out of band signals, and the signal processing part adopts a parallel architecture to analyze any useful signals; And the TV stick will analyze the signal by computer software to complete, in the micro is the serial processing architecture, compared with the pure hardware processing, there is a big difference.

ADSBRADAR uses a high-resolution analog-to-digital converter, which is four times the resolution of the TV bar. Therefore, it can effectively process the weak signal of the receiver and analyze the received weak signal of the remote target. Powerful receiving and processing capabilities bring more targets and more continuous and smooth running track refresh.

Moreover, compared with ADSBRADAR, the TV stick achieves the receiving target through multiple software operations, which inevitably brings too many software operation settings and other requirements, and requires excellent computer operation knowledge, which is not easy for people who are not familiar with software operation; The specificity of ADSBRADAR enables ordinary users to quickly master the operation and use it skillfully.
