ADS-B and Radar Data Fusion

The purpose of Air Traffic Control (ATC) is to make sure that the flights are safe, efficient and sticking to the flight plan in the airspace. The surveillance of the flights is necessary to the controllers. There are two methods of implementing air traffic surveillance: radar and Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B). The ADS-B and multi-radar data fusion system can effectively fuse the ADS-B data and radar data to enhance the accuracy of the surveillance system. As the next generation surveillance system, the ADS-B and multi-radar data fusion system is not only an important component of the CNS/ATM system, but also supports air traffic management, providing data for air traffic flow management.

Based on the analysis of the characteristics of ADS-B and radar, the ADS-B and multi-radar data fusion system is designed on the theory level. The key problems in the ADS-B and multi-radar data fusion system include: track process (to eliminate the random error by filtering); registration (to register the system); correlation (to correlate the data of a plane from different radars and ADS-B); fusion (fuse the multi radar data and then fuse the ADS-B data).
